Angel City FC midfielder Hina Sugita will miss the rest of the 2026 NWSL season with a torn left ACL, the club said Tuesday.
'Hina is a world class athlete and teammate,' head coach Alex Straus said. 'We are devastated for her, but know she will bring the same focus and determination to her rehab as she does on the pitch. The entire team and club are behind her. We are prepared to support her on her road to recovery and look forward to having her back.'
The team did not say when Sugita sustained the injury. She did not play when Angel City opened the season with a 4-0 home win Sunday against the Chicago Stars.
Sugita, 29, made four appearances (all starts) for ACFC last season after arriving in a September trade with the Portland Thorns.
Internationally, Sugita has earned 51 caps with the Japanese national team while competing in two FIFA Women's World Cups (2019, 2023).
