SAN FRANCISCO, California: Anthropic has secured US$30 billion in new funding, lifting the Claude chatbot maker's valuation to $380 billion and highlighting sustained investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence startups.
The funding round was co-led by D. E. Shaw Ventures, ICONIQ and MGX, and included part of previously announced investments from Microsoft and Nvidia.
Anthropic, which is backed by Google and Amazon, had previously raised $13 billion in a Series F round that valued it at $183 billion, the company said in early September.
The startup has set itself apart by training its models with a strong focus on coding. Its Claude Code product has gained traction among developers, helping the company carve out a competitive position in the enterprise AI market.
Anthropic's recent launch of plugins for its Cowork AI agent also stirred markets, triggering a sharp selloff in global software stocks as investors debated the disruptive potential of increasingly sophisticated AI systems.
Revenue Surges
Anthropic said its current run-rate revenue has reached $14 billion. For Claude Code alone, run-rate revenue has climbed to more than $2.5 billion, more than doubling since the start of 2026.
Business subscriptions to Claude Code have quadrupled since the beginning of the year, with enterprise customers now accounting for more than half of Claude Code revenue, the company said.
The company has been expanding its enterprise offerings, including Claude Cowork, an AI agent designed to execute computer tasks for white-collar workers.
Anthropic has also taken a distinctive stance on regulation. While many technology firms have advocated for lighter oversight, Anthropic has outlined plans to donate $20 million to support U.S. political candidates who favor regulating the AI sector.
"The companies building AI have a responsibility to help ensure the technology serves the public good, not just their own interests," Anthropic had said separately earlier on Thursday.
Investor interest in the AI space remains intense. Reuters reported earlier this week that Blackstone was increasing its stake in Anthropic to about $1 billion.
Separately, OpenAI could reach a valuation of around $830 billion as part of talks with SoftBank Group to invest up to an additional $30 billion in the ChatGPT maker, Reuters reported in January.
