Former All-Star relief pitcher Ryan Pressly announced his retirement Saturday, putting a end to a 13-year major league career.
Pressly made 667 career relief appearances, going 37-39 with 117 saves with a 3.33 ERA and 721 strikeouts over 691 1/3 innings. He pitched in parts of six seasons for the Minnesota Twins and another seven with the Houston Astros after a 2018 trade. With the Astros, he was named an All-Star in 2019 and 2021, while contributing to a World Series winner in 2022.
'After spending the last 19 years in professional baseball, I've made the decision to hang up my cleats and step away from the mound,' Pressly said in a social media post. 'It's bittersweet, but what a ride it's been.'
Pressly spent last season with the Chicago Cubs, where he had a 4.35 ERA with 28 strikeouts and five saves.
