The Indiana Pacers plan to waive guard Cam Payne, according to multiple media reports.
Payne was a first-round pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. His 10-year NBA career has included stints with seven teams: the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks.
The guard suited up in 72 regular-season games for the Knicks last season, averaging 6.9 points and 2.8 assists in 15.1 minutes per game. He shot 36.3 percent on 3-pointers. He also averaged 2.1 points and 7.3 minutes in 14 playoff games.
With Pacers point guard T.J. McConnell expected to miss the first month of the season with a hamstring injury, Payne was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract on Oct. 9 to add backcourt depth to the roster.
Payne appeared in three preseason games for the Pacers. He averaged 6.7 points and 2.3 assists while hitting 6 of 21 shots from the field.
