Hamas delegation arrives in Egypt for negotiations over implementing Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan
A delegation from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) arrived in Egypt on Sunday to prepare for negotiations with the Egyptian side on Monday in the Red Sea city of Sharm El Sheikh, Egyptian sources told Xinhua.
The two sides will hold talks on implementing the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan, according to the informed sources.
The negotiation will focus on the details of enacting the first phase of the plan, the sources told Xinhua, adding that key points of discussions are expected to include the mechanism for the exchange of prisoners between Hamas and Israel, as well as the process for Hamas to hand over its weapons.
Israeli negotiators to leave Monday for Gaza ceasefire talks in Egypt
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a high-level delegation to depart for indirect talks with Hamas in Egypt on Monday, aimed at halting the Gaza war, his office said in a statement on Sunday.
The team, led by Ron Dermer, Israel's minister of strategic affairs and a close associate of Netanyahu, will head to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula for the negotiations.
Hamas and Israeli officials are set to discuss a U.S. proposal to end the nearly 24-month war, while securing the release of 48 hostages still held in Gaza. The war has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians, devastated the enclave and caused famine in the strip.
Iran says Cairo deal with IAEA no longer valid after UN sanctions snapback
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that the recent agreement on resuming cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog can no longer serve as the basis for bilateral collaboration.
Speaking at a press conference, Araghchi noted that the enforcement of the snapback mechanism had "changed the circumstances," adding, "We are facing a new situation," according to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA).
In September, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reached an agreement in Cairo on a new framework of cooperation to address Iran's security and safety concerns. The deal came after Tehran suspended its cooperation with the IAEA in late June following Israeli-U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities and the assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists. Under the arrangement, any IAEA inspections would require approval from Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
Trump administration to send 300 National Guardsmen to Chicago despite objection
U.S. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said Saturday that despite his repeated rejections of federal mobilization to Chicago, President Donald Trump will send in 300 National Guardsmen.
Pritzker said on social media that the Trump administration gave him an ultimatum: "call up your troops, or we will."
"In the coming hours, the Trump Administration intends to federalize 300 members of the Illinois National Guard," the governor said.
"Amidst ongoing violent riots and lawlessness, that local leaders like Pritzker have refused to step in to quell, President Trump has authorized 300 National Guardsmen to protect federal officers and assets," White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said in a statement issued on Saturday.
Yemen's Houthis launch drone attack on Israel's resort city Eilat
Houthi forces launched a drone at Israel's Red Sea resort city of Eilat late on Sunday, the second attack in a day, the Israeli military said, adding that the unmanned aircraft was likely intercepted.
"Following the sirens that sounded regarding a hostile aircraft infiltration in the area of Eilat, a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that was launched from Yemen was likely intercepted by the IAF (Israel Air Force)," the military said in a statement. It added that the sirens were triggered due to the risk of falling shrapnel from the interception.
Police said in a statement that officers were searching the area, but no casualties were reported.
