HOUSTONThe Houston Texans have added eight coaches as part of the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship, the team announced on Friday.
Since its inception in 1987, the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship is designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time NFL minority coaches. With all 32 NFL clubs participating each year, the program's objective is to use NFL clubs' offseason workout programs and minicamps to give talented coaches opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience, and ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position.
Brooksis entering his third season as running backs coach at Virginia Tech. Prior to his role at Virginia Tech, Brooks spent six seasons (2018-23) as running backs coach at Maryland, seven seasons (2011-17) as head coach at DeMatha Catholic High School and four seasons (2007-10) as head strength and conditioning coach/running backs. Prior to coaching, Brooks starred as an all-conference running back at William & Mary from 2004-2006, finishing as the school's sixth all-time leading rusher.
Douglasis entering his third season in the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity program after serving as a coaching fellow on the Los Angeles Rams coaching staff in 2024 and the Miami Dolphins in 2023. Douglas played nine seasons in the NFL, including two seasons with the Dolphins (2014-15), one season with the Patriots (2016), one season with the Falcons (2017), three seasons with the Colts (2018-20), two seasons with the Bills (2020-21) and one season with the New York Giants (2022). Douglas played in 50 games and recorded 11 starts through his NFL career. A native of Cypress, Calif., Douglas attended Arizona State from 2012-15.
Hollandis entering his second season in the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity program after spending the 2024 season as a coaching fellow with the San Francisco 49ers. He brings six years of playing experience to the Texans staff, including three years at the professional level (2017 Cleveland Gladiators, 2018 Edmonton Elks, 2019 San Francisco 49ers). Holland played defensive back at Prairie View A&M from 2014-16. He currently serves as the CEO at Woodcrest Consulting.
Hyderrejoins the team as a coaching fellow after playing for the Texans in 2023. Hyder currently serves as the head football coach at Bishop Dunne Catholic High School, located in Texas. He spent 10 seasons in the NFL (2014-23), where he played in 93 games (24 starts) and recorded 163 tackles, including 31 tackles for loss, 22.0 sacks and six fumble recoveries. The Austin, Texas native played four years at Texas Tech (2010-13).
Madisonis entering his first season as defensive backs analyst at Alabama. Prior to his role at Alabama, Madisonspent two seasons (2023-24) as cornerbacks coach at Illinois State, one season (2022) as special teams and defensive backs assistant at Kansas State and one season (2021) as cornerbacks coach at Southeast Missouri. A native of Fayette, Alabama, Madison began his collegiate career at Texas Tech (2014-16) before finishing hiscollegiate career in 2017 at West Alabama. He also spent the 2019 season playing for the Iowa Barnstormers in the Indoor Football League.
Simsis entering his first season as associate athletic director sports performance at Florida A&M. He brings over 10 years of strength and conditioning experience to the Texans staff. Most recently, Sims served as director of strength and conditioning at Colorado from 2023-24. Prior to his role at Colorado, he spent one season (2022) as director of strength and conditioning at Jackson State and two seasons (2020-21) as associate director of strength and conditioning at Georgia. During his time in Athens, he helped the Bulldogs to a 22-3 record in those two seasons and a National Championship in 2021. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., he earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Tennessee-Chattanooga and his master's degree in Transformative Leadership from Bethune-Cookman. An all-conference defensive back at Concord University prior to transferring to UTC, Sims is certified through the College Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association and the National Strength & Conditioning Association.
Thompsonis entering his first season as linebackers analyst at UCLA. Prior to his current role, Thompson spent one season (2024) as graduate assistant/defensive line coach at Arizona State, two seasons (2022-23) as graduate assistant/linebackers coach at Hawaii and one season (2022) as linebackers coach at Hart High School. A native ofPacoima, Calif., Thompson played linebacker at UCLA from 2018-19 before closing out his collegiate career at Buffalo in 2020.
Williamsis entering his third season in the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity program after serving as a coaching fellow on the Los Angeles Chargers coaching staff in 2023 and the Baltimore Ravens staff in 2022. He played nine seasons in the NFL, including one season with the Titans (2008), four seasons with the Ravens (2009-12), two seasons with the Eagles (2013-14), one season with the Seahawks (2015) and one season with the Commanders (2016). During his pro career, Williams played in 97 games (75 starts) and recorded 330 tackles, 61 passes defensed, nine interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. A native of Miami, Fla., Williams played defensive back at Washburn from 2005-07.
