Patrick Wisdom drove in one run and scored another as the visiting Chicago Cubs scored twice in the 11th inning to defeat the Washington Nationals 7-5 on Tuesday night.
Wisdom led off the 11th with a double down the left field line against Victor Arano (1-1), scoring Willson Contreras. Wisdom later scored on a single by Seiya Suzuki.
Brandon Hughes (2-1) pitched one inning for the win and Mark Leiter Jr. worked the 11th for his first save.
The Cubs took a 5-4 lead in the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Contreras but CJ Abrams singled home Lane Thomas to tie it.
Franmil Reyes homered and singled, and Nico Hoerner also had 3 hits for Chicago.
Luke Voit and Thomas homered in the eighth inning against Cubs reliever Rowan Wick to tie it 4-4.
Chicago starter Justin Steele allowed one unearned run, though his throwing error led to the run, on five hits through six innings.
After being pulled in the first inning twice in his past three starts while pitching to a 25.41 ERA, Nationals starter Patrick Corbin was skipped last time through the rotation. On Tuesday he allowed four runs on six hits over six innings and lowered his season ERA to 6.96.
Cesar Hernandez had three hits and rookie Joey Meneses extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Reyes and Hoerner singled, and Nelson Velasquez doubled off the wall in left center, scoring Reyes.
Steele was helped by a pair of double plays that shorted Washington rallies in the first and second innings.
In the fourth, Suzuki opened with a walk and came all the way around on a double into the left field corner by Hoerner. With two outs, P.J. Higgins lined a single to left center, scoring Hoerner to make it 3-0.
Reyes homered to right center off a 2-1 Corbin fastball in the sixth, increasing the lead to 4-0.
The Nationals pulled within 4-1 when Victor Robles led off with a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nelson Cruz, and Washington got an RBI single from Ildemaro Vargas in the seventh.
