ATLANTA, Georgia: Newly released statistics indicate that in the United States, 165 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, and some 208 million doses delivered, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on April 4.
That is an increase of 4 million doses administered in 24 hours.
Further, the CDC reports that 106,214,924 people have received at least one vaccine dose, and 61,416,536 people have received both doses.
Additionally, the CDC said that 7,742,126 vaccine doses have been given out in nursing homes.
"We are doing everything we can to expand access to vaccinations," CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH said Tuesday. "Millions of Americans are getting vaccinated every day, but we need to ensure that we are reaching those in the communities hit hardest by this pandemic.
Dr. Walensky was speaking after the awarding of additional funding to expand the vaccination program.
The CDC awarded the funding to support local efforts to increase vaccine uptake with the objective of achieving greater equity and access to vaccine by those disproportionately affected by the virus.
The awards are part of $3 billion in funds that CDC has granted to 64 jurisdictions to bolster broad-based vaccine distribution, access, and administration efforts. The funding was made available by the American Rescue Plan and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and, according to the CDC, will provide critical support through existing immunization cooperative agreements in communities around the country.
