What the Lakers should do....NOW MAY 14
Listen! Right now the Lakers are stuck. They made such a big investment to bring Dwight Howard and Steve Nash that they have no choice but to see it through until the end. Both Pau Gasol and MWP are virtually untradeable and we we all know that Kobe is off the market. That guy is going to retire a Laker for sure. Other than that, they have virtually nothing to bargain with. Their bench sucks and ...

Rizzo reaping rewards of getting back to roots
Email CHICAGO -- First baseman Anthony Rizzo entered Sunday's series finale against the Mets having not struck out in his last 39 at-bats. "Shhh!" said manager Dale Sveum when this was mentioned following Saturday's win, and he may have been right to be concerned, as Rizzo was struck out by Dillon Gee in his very first at-bat. It's not quite jinxing a no-hitter or a ...

Cubs put shift to good use against Ankiel
Email CHICAGO -- If you thought the Cubs were playing without a third baseman at times during Saturday's win over the Mets, you wouldn't be entirely off base. The defensive shifts that manager Dale Sveum and his staff like to employ have been on display this weekend at Wrigley Field when Mets outfielder Rick Ankiel comes to bat. When the left-handed-hitting Ankiel steps in the box, ...

The Wild
Not since the dueling destructive asteroid movies of 98 has there been such sharply etched proof of Hollywoods frequent creative bankruptcy. It was barely a year ago that I sat in a theater watching DreamWorkss Madagascar, a fitfully amusing computer-animated comedy about a group of animals ... ...

Castros potential what he wants it to be says Sveum
Email CHICAGO -- The Cubs know that shortstop Starlin Castro has a bright future ahead of him. It's just that he continues to make some puzzling mistakes. In the second inning of Saturday's game, he made an error on a routine grounder on a potential double-play ball and had a rough day at the plate, going hitless and seeing only 14 pitches in five at-bats. It was a bad day, no doubt, ...

Villanueva adds veteran presence to bullpen
Email CHICAGO -- Right-hander Carlos Villanueva was available out of the bullpen for Sunday's series finale against the Mets, one day after losing his spot in the rotation because of Matt Garza's impending return. The move adds a veteran weapon to a relief corps that has been impressive as of late. The 29-year-old has appeared mostly as a reliever in his career -- 245 of his 309 ...

Bernstein Other NBA Teams Try Hard Too
(CBS) — Four NBA teams remain in the running for the title, and the never-say-die Bulls are not one of them because, well, they died. Throughout their entire lost season of water-treading, we have heard Tom Thibodeau's Bulls lauded for every available description of effort, too often eschewing real analysis of the technical savvy of their defensive system for lazy odes to just how ...

Chicago Chronicle
Chicago Chronicle | Current Chicago News & Illinois State HeadlinesThe Chicago Chronicle was first published as a newspaper on May 28 1895 serving the Chicago and surrounding areas. It was the only morning newspaper at the time and supported the Democratic party, although this changed in subsequent years. The Chicago Chronicle closed after publishing its final issue on May 31 1907, after a history of 12 years almost to the day. This new version of the Chicago Chronicle, which began publishing on September 11 2002 is essentially a local Chicago online newspaper, but with a national and international perspective, designed to provide readers with a one-stop shop for Chicago, national US, regional, and world news coverage, weather and sports information, with live updates on breaking business stories, and what's happening in the financial markets.
The biggest advantage we have is that we are an online newspaper, which means we are constantly refreshing our stories as more and more information comes to hand. Often when a story breaks the initial details are sketchy.
We and our sources around the world work hard to gather more information, verify facts, and provide a perspective of the major stories. Expert opinion often accompanies our articles to better inform readers, and provide a more complete understanding
of the news we deliver.
Financial markets and business reports are regular features as we pin down what's happening, and constantly refresh stock market indice readings, dollar currency rates, and breaking business news reports. Our world sports coverage is a priority, as is our regional news.
We like to think if you're looking for breaking news out of Chicago, Illinois, the United States, or the world, you'll look for it first at the Chicago Chronicle.
